The Best Sunset Points in Mussoorie

Where to watch the sun drop behind the Garhwal hills — from classic Mall Road walks to quiet ridge-tops, with timings and distances from the Kulri end of Mall Road.

1. Camel's Back Road

The classic Mussoorie sunset walk. This quiet 3 km loop skirting the hill behind Mall Road has a dedicated sunset point about midway, looking straight over the Doon valley and the ridges beyond. It starts a short walk from Kulri — you can leave the hotel after evening chai and be there in about 15–20 minutes on foot.

2. Gun Hill

Mussoorie's second-highest point, reached by the famous ropeway (the base station is just off Mall Road, about 10 minutes' walk from Picture Palace) or a 20-minute bridle-path climb. On a clear evening you get a wide sweep of the Himalayan ranges to one side and the lights of Dehradun switching on below.

3. George Everest House (Hathipaon)

About 6–7 km from Mall Road, the ridge around Sir George Everest's restored house is many locals' pick for the best sunset in Mussoorie — a near-360° horizon with the Aglar valley on one side and the Doon valley on the other. Go an hour before sunset; taxis run from Library Chowk.

4. Cloud's End

At the far western edge of town (roughly 7–8 km from Mall Road), where the road literally ends in deodar forest. Fewer crowds, birdsong, and long golden light through the trees rather than a big open horizon — best combined with an afternoon walk.

5. Mussoorie Lake

On the Dehradun road about 5–6 km below town, this small lake catches lovely low light in the evening and is an easy stop if you're driving up or down. More of a family pit-stop than a viewpoint — pedal boats and snack stalls included.

6. Landour & Lal Tibba

Technically better at sunrise, but the Landour loop (4–5 km from Kulri, uphill past Picture Palace) glows in the last hour of light, and Lal Tibba's viewing deck faces the high Himalaya — on clear days you can make out the snow line turning pink after the sun drops.

7. Your own balcony

Honest local tip: many evenings the best seat is a hill-facing balcony with a cup of chai. Our Suite and Super Deluxe rooms face the Mussoorie hills — sunset included, no walking required.

Timing: sunset in Mussoorie runs from about 5:30 pm in December to about 7:15 pm in June. Carry a layer — the temperature drops fast once the sun goes, even in summer. All distances above are approximate, measured from the Mall Road / Picture Palace end (2 minutes from the hotel).
